How Not to Be a Boring Podcast Guest

The more likable you are, the greater chance listeners will want to learn more about you.As a podcast host, I’ve interviewed more than 40 startup founders and/or innovators in Europe. One of the biggest worries for any podcast guest is whether listeners will think they are not interesting. To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, I share a few things you can do to leave a favorable impression on listeners.

How to Prepare

The better guest you are, the more other podcast opportunities will open up for you.

The Process

Keep things organized with a system.Landing 40+ guest spots on multiple podcasts in the span of six months doesn’t just happen without a system. By having things setup in order, I was able to only dedicate around six to eight hours a week on guest podcasting initiatives. This is how I did it.

Questions + Answers

Who specifically is this playbook for?

Any business professional who wants to grow their brand, drive new leads, and build credibility.

Why is going on podcast as a guest important?

Guest podcasting isn't for everyone. But in today's business landscape, you're seriously behind the 8-ball if you aren't utilizing podcasts as a growth channel. When you are in someone’s ear for thirty minutes, they learn a lot about you and your product. More than they could ever learn from your About page or some 3-minute video.

Why the heck should I listen to you? Who are you?

My name is Eric Melchor. I'm a former growth marketer who helped drove an additional $300,000+ in ARR for Bonjoro.Later, when I joined OptiMonk, I repeated the same strategy and got booked on over 40 podcasts, many in the top 10% of all podcasts in the world. I did the bookings part-time, a few hours a week. Within six months, more than 10% of new users indicated they first heard about OptiMonk from a podcast. In addition, I'm a podcast host and receive dozens of pitches every month from people requesting to be a guest on my podcast. You absolutely do not have to listen to me, but helping brands grow through podcasting has been one of the biggest successes in my career.

What will I learn from this playbook?

You'll learn my system for accelerating your podcasting as a growth strategy and getting more guest bookings. It's the same system I've followed to help generate over $300k in ARR for brands and land guest podcast opportunities on some of the biggest Marketing and B2B podcasts.

Ok I got it. This must be expensive right?

No. It's $199

Most podcast booking agencies charge $500 or $300 for a podcast booking. What's the deal?

True. A podcast placement agency usually charges $6,000 for 12 episode bookings. This isn't my primary source of income and my main goal is to give back to the community. How many startups or new business owners can actually afford to pay those fees just to get booked on one podcast?

Ok, but still....Is it still worth $199?

I spent 40+ hours working on this & providing the best resources, so you don't have to. You'll get instant access to my playbook to help your business grow through podcasting.I've designed this course to be actionable. It's not some book you read once & shelve. It's a text and video-based course with a system that you can use every day, and revisit frequently.

How long will it take to see results?

It depends on how active you are and how many weekly pitches you make. If you follow the lessons and modules, expect to see some good traction in 90-180 days. At Bonjoro, we started to see results after appearing on around 30 podcasts. And at OptiMonk, we started seeing results after I appeared on around 20 podcasts. If you do absolutely nothing, you won't see any results.

Does the playbook come with email or call support?

No, the playbook is designed to be self-guided and self-paced. However, if you do have any questions, you can always send me an email and I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.
